Midwest Pathologist, Diver,
Passes While Traveling

Dr. Allan James Yates, M.D., Ph.D, F.R.C.P., 67, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Pathology, died suddenly, August 3, 2010 traveling in the Arctic in East Greenland with his wife Charlotte. Born in Calgary, Alberta, he completed his medical and research training in Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal. In 1975, Dr Yates joined the faculty of The Ohio State University and had a distinguished career in the College of Medicine. As a renowned academic neuropathologist, he was widely respected for his diagnostic acumen and research in the pathobiology of brain tumors. He also directed the creation of the
Integrated Biomedical Science Graduate Program and Medical Scientist Program; he viewed these achievements as his legacies in the College of Medicine. He was an avid SCUBA diver, hockey player, life-long learner, world traveler, and teacher. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Charlotte; his son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Nicole; his son, Brian; his sister, Donna Adelman and brother-in-law; Hy; and all his friends and colleagues.
